Fruit smoothies are a rich combination of fiber, vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants depending on the fruits which support the baby’s growth and development.
Smoothie serve as a nutritious and delicious snack or meal for your toddler or infant. Here's a basic recipe that you can try:
Ingredients:
- Diced mango
- Ripe banana
- 2-3 walnuts
- 2-3 almonds
- A handful of berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, etc., based on availability)
- 1/2 cup milk
Optional Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon honey (optional, for sweetness)
Preparation Time: 5-10mins
Instructions:
- Prepare the Ingredients:
- Wash all the fruits thoroughly
- Peel mango, banana and chop it or dice it into smaller pieces
- Chop the nuts (almond, walnut) into smaller pieces for easier blending
- Blend: In a blender, combine the banana, mango, walnuts, almonds, berries, and milk. Blend the ingredients until you achieve a smooth consistency. If the smoothie is too thick, you can add more milk to reach your desired consistency.
- Serve: Pour the smoothie into a suitable serving cup or glass.
- If serving to a toddler, you can use a straw or a spoon for them to drink or eat the smoothie and keep the consistency of the smoothie accordingly.
- If serving to an infant, ensure that the smoothie is at an appropriate temperature and serve using a spoon.
How to use optional ingredients
- Honey: You may add honey in small portions just when you are blending so that it mixes thoroughly
With the changing seasons and availability of fruits, feel free to combine sweet and tangy fruits to create a variety of smoothie options. Our daughter adores fruits and can easily recognize many of them wherever she sees them; she could even live solely on fruits if given the choice.
Important Points to note
- Always consult with your paediatrician before introducing new foods to your baby's diet, especially if they are less than six months old.
