What is the relevance of ISI Mark for toys sold in India?
The Bureau of India Standards (BIS) states that all toys, whether from India or elsewhere, MUST HAVE an ISI Mark to indicate they are safe and have complied with the Quality Control Order. The presence of the ISI Mark indicates that the toys adhere to the regulations aimed at ensuring children's safety. BIS aims to prevent toys from being too small and posing a choking hazard, having sharp edges or points that could cause injury, and containing harmful substances that could make children ill if ingested among the few concerns. Therefore, parents, please check for the ISI Mark on the toys you purchase to ensure the safety and happiness of your children!
Which toys are better – wood or plastic?
Toys for infants and toddlers are designed to promote skill development, support overall growth, enhance numerical and spatial awareness, improve problem-solving abilities, and increase confidence and engagement. The effectiveness of a toy depends on its ability to fulfill its intended purpose, with some toys being better suited for construction in wood and others in plastic.
When choosing plastic toys, it's important to look for instructions or messaging indicating that the toys are free of BPA and safe for babies to use. For wooden toys, it's crucial to ensure that they have smooth edges and are genuinely crafted from wood rather than any cheaper substitutes.
Ensuring that toys do not pose a choking hazard, have no breakage concerns, and are
unlikely to cause injuries is extremely important. They should be non-breakable, and the paint or any other materials used must be safe for children. Therefore, there is a place for both types of toys in a child's toy collection. Ultimately, as parents, we are best equipped to decide what is suitable for our children's needs and safety.
Why do I need toys for my child?
Infants explore the world through play, creating opportunities for interaction with parents and siblings. The wide variety of toys available in the market plays a crucial role in skill development and stimulates mental growth. Each toy is designed for specific age groups and developmental milestones, supporting the infant's learning journey.
Toys serve as catalysts for the infant's development, driving a learning process that might seem astonishing. Infants, fueled by their natural curiosity, eagerly absorb information from their surroundings, touching and exploring everything within reach. It's noteworthy that children often repurpose household items as makeshift toys, underlining the importance of providing suitable and purposeful toys to foster their development.
While toys are valuable tools for learning, it's essential to recognize that too many options can overwhelm a child. Quality takes precedence over quantity in this context. Rather than filling the play space with an excess of toys, a curated selection is more beneficial. This approach encourages extended and meaningful engagement, steering clear of unnecessary clutter.
How do I know what is the right toy?
When picking toys for your child, start by selecting those suitable for their age and aligned with their current developmental stage. It's important to acknowledge that children progress at varying rates, so considering your child's development is crucial. Equally important is understanding the specific skills that each toy is designed to enhance. Toys that are too challenging may discourage your child, while overly simple ones may not be engaging for infants and toddlers.
Our aim is to tackle this challenge by offering age and milestone-appropriate recommendations. We seek to equip parents with knowledge and insights into the developmental value of toys, enabling them to make informed decisions that match their child's practical development.
What are Montessori toys?
Montessori toys follow the educational philosophy of Maria Montessori, emphasizing hands-on, child-led learning in an environment that encourages independence, exploration, and discovery. They are designed to support the natural development of children by promoting sensory exploration, fine and gross motor skills, and cognitive growth. Montessori toys are typically made from materials like wood, fabric, and other natural materials.
